USDA’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS) provides much-needed infrastructure or infrastructure improvements to rural communities. These include water and waste treatment, electric power and telecommunications services. All of these services help to expand economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for rural residents. This layer includes the project area for each of the 13 projects. The project areas do not necessarily reflect where the Electric Program has specifically financed Broadband service drops, some project areas represent complete Borrower service areas, while others represent a portion of the Borrower service area when an applicant is only proposing to finance service drops in a specific area of their service area. The Smart Utility Loans USDA approved are limited to 10% financing for service drops and Broadband financing for service drops is permitted in areas that are underserved within Electric Borrower service areas.
